- I’m currently writing this on the Shinkansen ride home. I was surprised to realize that, unlike before—when I would walk around the station or ride the train while scrolling through my smartphone—I no longer feel the need to do so.
Through this temple stay, I was able to learn the importance of serving others and the environment around me, maintaining a sincere and humble heart, and continuously directing awareness toward myself.
I’m currently writing this on the Shinkansen ride home. I was surprised to realize that, unlike before—when I would walk around the station or ride the train while scrolling through my smartphone—I no longer feel the need to do so. I believe this change is thanks to the teachings I received from the apprentice monks: to approach each daily activity with full focus and presence. I did my best to put this into practice, even if imperfectly. I also feel that being able to properly rest my body and mind after physical activity—especially during the evening zazen sessions and by following a well-structured and appropriate sleep schedule—has greatly contributed to this sense of change.
As I return to my daily life, I sincerely hope to continue applying what I’ve practiced here, and to live each day in good physical and mental health.
I am deeply grateful to have been given such a precious opportunity. To all the apprentice monks—thank you so much for your thoughtful, warm-hearted guidance and support.
