Voices of Temple Stay participants

Ou Bakukaku

This is a program that has changed my life. It is not an exaggeration.

Thoughts

  • This is a program that has changed my life. It is not an exaggeration.
  • I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the temple stay, and I thank the Buddha, the Bodhisattvas, Fukugenji Temple, and all sentient beings.
  • During the temple stay, I received great compassion from the monks who took care of me.
  • For those who are suffering in life, those who are lost, those who want to reconsider their physical strength, mental strength, and character, those who have reached their limit and feel helpless, those whose work, health, family, relationships, and love are not going well, and those who do not recognize themselves, I highly recommend participating in this program. Something may change. You may experience a rebirth, discovery, self-awareness, or even a decision.

Realizations

  • I was curious when something that was not in the prayer book was chanted during early morning services, evening services, and meals.
  • It would be helpful to have permission to ask up to two questions per day (with the right of the responder to decline to answer depending on the content).

Changes

I had depression, HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), and chronic thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s disease) since my teenage years.

Before:

  • Every morning, I would wake up feeling uneasy and anxious.
  • I would get easily irritated.
  • My mind was uncontrollable, and emotional storms would rage inside, sometimes to the point of feeling like I might explode, such as wanting to scream loudly during work.

After:

  • A force I cannot describe has emerged.
  • The nervousness and anxiety have disappeared, and I felt a sense of stability for the first time in a long while.
  • I was able to make judgments about the confusing, obsessive thoughts.
  • I began to see my heart, the path for my future, and some form of direction.
  • I learned to trust myself and started to treat myself with more care.
  • I became more aware of acting confidently without restlessness.

How to apply this to future life

  • As much as possible, I will continue the rhythm of the temple stay practice schedule, such as early morning and evening services, at home every day.
  • I will make sure to clean properly.
